What this template is for

This retrospective board template gives your team a structured space to reflect on what happened in a sprint, project, or quarter — and more importantly, to decide what to change. Use it to capture what went well, what could be improved, and the specific actions the team commits to before the next cycle. A good retrospective is not a venting session; it is a structured improvement loop. This template keeps the session focused and ends with concrete commitments rather than general feelings.

When to use this template

  • Run an end-of-sprint retrospective with a scrum team after a two-week iteration.
  • Facilitate a project post-mortem after a major release or product launch.
  • Conduct a quarterly team health check with a distributed or remote team.
  • Run a quick team check-in after a difficult incident or production outage.
  • Help a new team establish a reflection habit after their first sprint.
  • Facilitate a department retrospective after an organisational change.

How to use it

  1. 1Set a timer for five minutes of silent individual writing — everyone adds stickies without reading others.
  2. 2Read out all stickies and group similar ones into clusters.
  3. 3Dot-vote on the most important clusters to prioritize the discussion.
  4. 4For each top cluster, discuss root causes and propose one concrete action item.
  5. 5Assign each action item an owner and a deadline before closing the session.

Quick example

Sprint retrospective

Went well: daily standups were focused | deployment was smooth
Improve: PR reviews took too long | unclear acceptance criteria
Action 1: Add a 24hr PR review SLA — Dev Lead, next sprint
Action 2: Stories must have AC before sprint planning — PM, next planning
